Drones in Winter Olympics, PyeongChang 12/02/2018

If you watch NBC’s replay of the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in South Korea on Friday, February 9th you may have seen a snowboarder in flight. a bird flapping it’s wings and the iconic Olympic Rings light up the skies. This eye-catching show was thousands of tiny drones programmed to follow complicated flight paths to show different images.

The drones were made by the US, electronic chip maker. They were first introduced to the world in 2015 with an amazing light show. In addition to impressing the audience, the seven-minute display, recordered over a German Airfield near Hamburg. In Novenmber 2016, the technology gaint did it again, witha group of 500 re-designed lightweight drones. Dubbed Shooting, they were control by only ONE person with ONE computer.
